Pupil Premium
BackWhat Is Pupil Premium?
In 2011-12 the Government launched its Pupil Premium Funding.
The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools to be used for children from low-income families who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.
Since April 2012 Pupil Premium funding was extended to children who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years.
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to the main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
The money is allocated to initiatives and strategies that are identified to support pupils. We assess, track, monitor and evaluate the progress of each individual child and this informs our provision.

Universal Free School Meals are not the same as Free School Meals
Universal Free School Meals are offered to all children in schools through their Reception, year one and year two years.
Free School Meals are available for children of all ages, in families who meet specific criteria related to income
Please apply at: www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals if you feel you may be eligible.
Families registered for free school meals do not have to use them, but still generate funding into their child’s school, which is then used to the benefit of the children. You will see this reported on our website. It is known as ‘pupil premium’.
WE USE THE FUNDING TO SUPPORT FAMILIES AND CHILDREN IN DIFFERENT WAYS. THIS INCLUDES PAYING FOR TRIPS, CONTRIBUTING TO HABS HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES, AND FUNDING TOWARDS SUPPORT STAFF AND RESOURCES.
YOU NEED TO REGISTER FOR ‘FREE SCHOOL MEALS’ EVEN IF YOUR CHILD HAS ‘UNIVERSAL FREE SCHOOL MEALS’ AS DO ALL PUPILS IN EYFS AND KEY STAGE ONE
Those eligible for free school meals can also apply for remission of fees when learning musical instruments.
All applications take just a few minutes.
Please contact the school office if you are unsure about the process. Thank you.
